Swiss Film & Talks is a series of virtual film screenings followed by discussions with the directors and producers, who offer exclusive insights into the making of their movies. As many of the featured films touch on issues that are of great concern to people both in San Francisco as well as in Switzerland, Swiss Film & Talks offers a platform that brings together filmmakers and local experts to engage in captivating discussions on various contemporary issues such as sustainability, equal rights, and public health.
One of the many highlights of this series was a discussion following the screening of “Needle Park Baby,” where Swiss experts talked with their U.S. counterparts about the illicit drug scene in both countries and showcased how Zurich was able to get the problem of widespread drug abuse under control. Another featured movie touching on a current topic was “The Circle,” showing the LGBTQ movement in Switzerland and how its early formation and bottom-up structure affected same-sex marriage in Switzerland.
Bringing together Switzerland and the U.S. on many different levels, Swiss Film & Talks also features films about Swiss with a particular impact in a given region; one of them being Swiss architect Albert Frey, who notably influenced the Palm Springs area with his ideas and who had a long-lasting impact in the fields of architecture and design.
