After its restoration world premiere at the Locarno Film Festival in 2023, the Academy Museum presents the North American restoration debut of La Paloma this year by Swiss director Daniel Schmid (1941-2006).
This captivating movie follows the journey of its eponymous protagonist, singer Paloma, as she navigates her intricate journey towards self-discovery. Schmid’s interdisciplinary and eclectic background in theater, television, opera, and film clearly transpires this masterpiece that he crafted at the age of 33, as it has been described as an intertwinement of la Traviata, Stroheim & Sternberg, and the Grand Guignol.
Restoration by Cinémathèque suisse with the support of Memoriav at L’immagine ritrovata in Bologna.
