On July 26, the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris officially began with a beautiful Opening Ceremony showcasing everything Paris has to offer. Over the next two weeks, around 10,500 athletes from all over the world competed in 32 different sports ranging from aquatics, basketball, and cycling to volleyball and wrestling, and so much more. Several new sports were showcased this year, including break dancing which made its Olympic debut!
Switzerland was represented by 128 athletes, all of whom are examples of Swiss sporting excellence and carry on the country’s historical ties with the Olympics. In addition to having hosted the Games twice – first in 1928, then in 1948 – Switzerland is also home to the International Olympic Committee, which has been based in Lausanne, the “Olympic Capital,” since 1915. And with its reputation for making the best watches in the world, it comes to no surprise that the Swiss watch brand Omega has been the official timekeeper of the Olympic Games since 1932.
At this year’s Olympic Summer Games in Paris, Switzerland added 8 medals to the 205 Summer Olympic medals it has won in the previous Summer Olympics.
