During the Swiss-US Quantum Days from October 19-21, 2022, Swissnex in Boston brought together in Chicago over 80 quantum researchers, innovators, and industry leaders from Switzerland and the United States to deepen the entanglement of the two countries’ quantum ecosystems. The event followed the signing of a Joint Statement on Cooperation in Quantum Information Science and Technology on October 19, 2022 in Washington, DC, which outlined several avenues for future collaboration such as building a trusted market and supply chain or supporting the education of the next generation of scientists and engineers.
The conference, co-organized with the Chicago Quantum Exchange, offered a chance for individuals and organizations to engage with these ideas. Over the course of three days, the discussion ranged between topics including scientific advances in quantum computing, sensing, theory, and communication; quantum readiness in industrial sectors such as pharma and finance; and how to build ecosystems of innovation, including education pipelines for a diverse quantum-ready workforce. It was a great opportunity for local stakeholders and experts in the various fields discussed to learn about Switzerland’s excellence in quantum technology and fostered bottom-up connections that seeded long-term collaboration between Switzerland and the United States.
The government of Switzerland was represented by Martina Hirayama, State Secretary for Education, Research, and Innovation, while the US was represented by Charles Tahan, who leads the US National Quantum Initiative as the Director of the National Quantum Coordination Office at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.
