After the screening, film crew member Laura Donato gave some exclusive insights into the production of the movie and answered all questions from the audience.
With the aim to foster the Italian language in its various facets around the world, the Settimana della Lingua Italiana is an international cultural event held since 2001 every year in October. The Consulate General of Switzerland in Atlanta regularly participates in this celebration of Italian to showcase Switzerland’s cultural and linguistic diversity and to contribute to the promotion of one of its four national languages in the United States. Fitting the theme of the 2022 edition – “l’italiano e i giovani” (Italian and young people) – a movie about the fate of a young woman dealing with a traumatic experience was selected for the screening.
About “ATLAS”: Allegra is a lively young woman with a passion for high mountain climbing. She decides to travel to Morocco to reach the top of the Atlas mountain range, but her trip ends abruptly when a man explodes a bomb in a coffee shop and her three friends die in the attack. Unable to overcome the trauma, months later she returns to her city, where the encounter with Arad, a young Muslim refugee, forces her to confront her perception of reality, her fears, and heal her profound interior wounds.
