The Swiss Ambassador to the United States, together with the Consul General of Switzerland in Atlanta, the Honorary Consul of Switzerland in South Carolina, Swiss Business Hub USA, and the Swiss-American Chamber of Commerce attended the opening celebration of Matica’s first manufacturing plant in South Carolina.

This new 38,000-square-foot facility marks a significant milestone for Matica Group, a global leader in identity and payment solutions. Matica’s decision to establish a manufacturing hub in the U.S. is a strategic move, further solidifying its presence in the world’s largest market for identity systems, especially in desktop card personalization. The new Greer facility will be a key player in Matica’s global operations and the Greer plant represents Matica’s first step into domestic manufacturing in North America, a critical step in enhancing the company’s ability to meet growing market demand and ensure quicker, more secure delivery of its cutting-edge products. With the launch of the new plant, Matica will employ over 40 full-time personnel.

Matica’s founder and CEO, Sandro Camilleri, emphasized the importance of this expansion, stating, “We have had our sights on opening a factory in the U.S. for some time, since it is the world’s largest market for our specialized field of ID and payment solutions. South Carolina consistently ranks as one of the most business-friendly states in the U.S. and this, combined with our existing expert technical staff already being located here, meant that Greer made perfect sense as a location for our new facility.” Camilleri also acknowledged the support from local authorities and associations, expressing gratitude for the warm welcome Matica has received in Greer.

Swiss companies, including Matica, have been integral to South Carolina’s economic landscape. Ambassador Heckner emphasized “In South Carolina, Swiss affiliates account for 3% of the jobs created by all foreign affiliates in this state. And this number continues to grow as Swiss businesses increasingly see the U.S. as a key partner for future growth and innovation.”
