On April 27, 2024, Ambassador Jacques Pitteloud and his wife, Angélique Gakoko Pitteloud, co-hosted a gathering honoring the White House Correspondents’ Association at their residence in Washington, D.C. This year, for the second time, the Embassy organized this exclusive event in partnership with TIME Magazine as main media sponsor and Amazon MGM Studios as additional media sponsor. Thanks to the generous support of Mercuria and Salesforce, this event was a great tribute to the Fourth Estate and the strength of the bilateral relationship between Switzerland and the United States.
This exclusive celebration at the Swiss residence was one of the crowning elements formed as part of the almost week-long White House Correspondents’ Dinner (WHCD) events. The WHCD is an annual event hosted by the White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA), a tradition that dates back more than 100 years, and is typically attended by the President, journalists, politicians, celebrities, and other notable figures. The dinner is known for its combination of political humor and a focus on the relationship between the press and the White House.
“It is a privilege to once again host this gathering, recognizing the critical and important role of journalism in sustaining democracy, honoring the remarkable legacy of TIME, and highlighting the success of Amazon MGM Studios,” said Ambassador Jacques Pitteloud. “This occasion also presents a wonderful opportunity to showcase the richness of Swiss culture and the strength of the bilateral relationship between Switzerland and the United States of America during one of Washington D.C.’s most anticipated weekends.”
During the party at the Swiss Residence, guests from the fields of media, film, music, fashion, politics, and government had the chance to meet, create new connections, and network in a festive atmosphere while enjoying Swiss hospitality. This event was a perfect example for the intersection of politics (domestic and international) and culture, and the importance of fostering the exchange between these spheres. Safeguarding the free press as a crucial pillar of democracy and ensuring its accessibility to everyone are important values shared by Switzerland and the United States.
